ABSTRACT

The study is aimed to create a valid and appropriate instrument to measure the awareness level of Indonesians on the COVID-19 pandemic by using the ORID (Objective, Reflective, Interpretational and Decisional) instrument and to analyze the strategies to develop the knowledge needed to raise the awareness level. This study employed a descriptive approach by combining quantitative and qualitative methods. To determine the level of ORID awareness of respondents in Indonesia, descriptive statistics and inferential testing were used using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The results of the study concluded that increasing awareness of ORID in Indonesian society is unidimensional. That is, all aspects of the formation of ORID have a positive and significant contribution in increasing ORID awareness, although each aspect has a different contribution. Inequality of knowledge is one of the problems that cause differences in the level of public awareness in understanding the COVID-19 pandemic and thus making it difficult for the authorities to deal with the pandemic effectively. Overall, holistic approach needs to be applied by the government and communicated to the people so that government policies adopted in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic by strengthening social capital can be carried out more effectively. Meanwhile, the social capital could increase people's knowledge and the effectiveness of health protocols and other protective behaviors. Nevertheless, the ORID instrument could play as a vital role in disaster mitigation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Various teaching and learning approaches have been applied among educators to the students during the Movement and Control Orders (MCO) employed due to COVID-19. Educators especially those who are teaching the mathematics subject require comprehensive and effective tools to help their students understand the concept and able to do exercises with less face-to-face guidance or a normal conventional teaching approach. Teaching the mathematics subject especially to the Pre-Diploma students is very challenging as they are quite weak in mathematics fundamentals and coincidentally, they have to face the obstacles of teaching approach with Online learning during MCO. Hence, a mathematics teaching model with an online learning approach was created to make the teaching delivery effective, thus increasing the learning curve or performance of mathematics among students. The ongoing and final assessment results of the students were analysed using an independent sample t-test to measure the difference between those experiencing and without experiencing the suggested model.

ABSTRACT

eCommerce in Malaysia shows rapid increasing pattern throughout years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Consumers prefer to shop online instead of buying at brick-and-mortar stores. Consumer’s buying behavior and decision making are affected by their emotions in choosing goods and services. This paper focuses on emerging field of neuromarketing study. It is one of the marketing studies which may benefit the merchants as well as the consumers in producing and choosing goods. With the advent combination of neuroscience and marketing, neuromarketing, many studies have been done to study consumer’s behavior while making decision on online purchasing. Neuromarketing study can be carried out by various techniques. For example, the electroencephalogram (EEG) technique which is the most promising and accessible way to discover neuromarketing. In this paper, the EEG technique is chosen to be the neuromarketing techniques as the device is easy to use, accessible, and the most important is the EEG is non-invasive since there is no surgery required. This research purpose is to determine consumer’s behaviors towards marketing stimuli and how their emotions are influenced by the stimuli. Thus, this paper describes a study and the development of neuromarketing using hedonic and utilitarian motivation which has been proven that this method may enhance the marketing strategies. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Teaching and learning processes in higher education have been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Face to face learning has been transitioned to online learning. This study explored student preferences for online materials during unprecedented online learning due to COVID-19. Through an online questionnaire, quantitative data was collected from 104 students from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Defence and Science Technology. The factors focused on in analysing the student's preferences in online learning material include the layout, and multimedia analytics approach. The results present how multimedia analytics such as video, audio, graphic, and animation in online learning material play a significant role in the cognitive engagement and student's motivation in online learning. Also, respondents preferred online learning materials with element of multimedia such as video and audio, rather than text only. This study presents suggestions on how to enhance online learning materials to improve online learning.

ABSTRACT

Life Buoy, also known as a life preserver, is a crucial safety tool on board any marine ships. The most common and conventional lifesaver is operated manually to save people from drowning, yet this method poses a risk for both the victim and rescuer. Hence, with the help of current technology, a smart lifebuoy has been developed, whereby the rescuer just operates the lifebuoy using remote control. Yet, the existing smart life buoy system has been found heavy and hard to be operated, especially for women, children, and other people with disabilities. This paper focuses on the development of a lightweight smart life buoy system and its characteristics. Arduino Uno R3, Arduino Nano, DC motor 775, Transmitter and Receiver kit were the main components used in the development of the lightweight smart life buoy system (LWSLB). The developed LWSLB system was tested at the National Defence University of Malaysia’ swimming pool due to Covid-19 lockdown, and data such as speed, range of remote connection and battery endurance were obtained. It has been found out that the developed LWSLB weighs just 3.5kg overall compared to Brand S which weighs 13.75kg. However, in terms of speed, Brand S proves to be faster at 4.17m/s compared to LWSLB which exhibits a speed of 1.25m/s. © 2021, Faculty of Maritime Studies. All rights reserved.
